Safety tips
When buying
- Pay on delivery, never before. Do not pay any deposit, not even to "reserve". A seller who insists on being paid in advance is almost always a scammer.
- Stay inside Bwatoo. A seller who asks you to move to WhatsApp or to call them is often trying to avoid the rules. Report them.
- Check the item. Switch the phone on, test-drive the car, compare the serial number with the papers.
- Meet in a public place, in daylight, or use a courier from the platform.
- Prefer verified sellers: "Phone verified" badge, and even better "Identity verified".
When selling
- Only hand over the item once paid. Watch out for fake mobile money receipts: check that the money has actually reached your account.
- Never share your codes. Bwatoo will never ask for your sign-in code or your mobile money PIN.
- The 4-digit handover code belongs to the buyer: they give it to the courier on delivery.
Vehicles and property
- For a car: registration, customs clearance and roadworthiness, in the seller's name.
- For land or a house: land title, ACD or notarial deed. Have a notary check it before you pay.
- Never pay a rental deposit before visiting.
